Student board members 2023
Chair
Helena Siitonen
siitonen.helena@gmail.com
Because our association strongly relies on teamwork and cooperative tug-of-war, my position as the chairman is pretty much to check the clock, keep track of topics and be there to start meetings.
As a person I'm an easygoing bookworm who very professionally keeps her phone on silent mode if there's no scheduled events waiting.
Vice Chair
Katja Edlin
katja.edlin@gmail.com
My role as the Vice Chair consists of carrying out all the duties in our association when/if the Chairman is absent. I like to involve everyone in decision-making and make sure that things are dealt with in an efficient way.
Why common law? I see studying a LLB degree as a great opportunity for an international legal career as it gives you all the needed skills to work in English-speaking settings; English being the standard language used in international commercial, trading and financial contracts.
I’ve always had a strong sense of justice and a drive to help individuals in their times of need. Personality-wise, I would describe myself as assertive, creative and compassionate.
Secretary
Jenni Laitila
Treasurer
Halti Toppinen
haltieemeli@gmail.com
My role as the Treasurer of Obitery Ry requires me to manage various financial aspects, such as financial planning and risk management.
I wished to study law, because I wanted to have a career where I could have an actual impact on the things that are important to me. I decided I wanted to pursue an LLB degree, since I have always been really interested in international work.
I would describe myself as calm, friendly and thoughtful. My hobbies include reading, spending time in nature and playing powerchair football.
My favourite authors are Haruki Murakami, George Orwell and Agantha Christie. My favourite books from each one are “Kafka on the Shore”, “Animal Farm”, “And Then There Were None”. I read each one of those books in just a few days.
Communications Executive and Member Coordinator
Iida Poutanen
iida.poutanen@gmail.com
Communications Executives’ role is to produce content for social media platforms and maintain the student association’s website, info-email list and also social media accounts. The role of a Member Coordinator includes managing contacts with new members, ensuring that activities and opportunities are available for each member and also implementing member recruitment campaigns organised by the association. As a Communications Executive and a Member Coordinator I want to ensure that every new and current member is included in our activities and everyone is being treated equally. Any form of discrimination is strictly prohibited in our student association. Why Common law? I have been interested in a law degree since I was in high school, but after graduating I wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do. After a few years of searching for my path I decided to apply to study for a LLB degree. I think that an international law degree gives me so many career opportunities and I also love the idea that my future profession will enable me to work abroad. I could describe myself as a friendly and caring person. Besides that I am also very systematic and determined. I think that by being kind and respectful towards others but also at the same time holding on to your own moral values and opinions will take you far in life.
